GAIM, the multi protocol instant messenger client whose development was stopped due to trademark settlement issue with AOL and had to renamed the project as Pidgin is finally available for download. It includes some refreshing new features like:

• Supports almost all instant messaging protocols like AIM, MSN, Yahoo!, XMPP (Jabber), ICQ, IRC, SILC, SIP/SIMPLE, Novell GroupWise, Lotus Sametime, Bonjour, Zephyr, Gadu-Gadu, and QQ.
• Clean new interface with a cool new logo.
• Online buddies appear with green dot and buddies who are away can be seen with a clock. Similarly, Yahoo users who are signed into mobile appear as a green dot with a mobile icon to the right. You can find out your buddy’s network by hovering over his name.

By default, Pidgin doesn’t enable smiley; you’ll have to manually enable smiley from Tools > Preference > Smiley Themes, that’s certainly the only complaint I’m having with Pidgin. Otherwise, Pidgin looks bright and refreshing. Now that the legal battle is over, Pidgin should continue to dominate AIM users and AOL is unable to do anything about it.
