Antidepressants and suicidal thoughts

Antidepressants have been an alert on the market because of its adverse effect in children. A number of antidepressants have been linked to increasing suicidal thoughts in children taking it. There were several court cases of children doing things to other people that got them into trouble from the use of antidepressants. The defend lawyer had use antidepressant as one of the reasons why his client was aggressive toward the plaintiff. There were many cases in record showing that there’s a link between antidepressant and suicidal thoughts.
The FDA or Food and Drug Administration even have research into the matter and found that there is a link between antidepressants and suicidal thoughts. The FDA requires that there be labels on the antidepressant bottle stating the fact that it could make patients have suicidal thoughts. I personally have my personal experiences with medicine and agree that medicine do have their adverse side effects.
This is a common thing with medicines because each medicine has side effects as we all know it and some is more potent than other. The side effects are listed with each medication though and you would take it at your own risk. Patients have the freedom to choose whether they want to use a drug that has an adverse effect such as thoughts of suicidal. They don’t have to take it and choose other methods of treatments. There are plenty of treatments options for depressed patients.
All medications have side effects. Cancer chemo therapy makes patients lose their hair but people go on with the treatment anyway. This is just a way of medicines. You rarely have one without any side effects. Some side effects could be death or deafness. Recently, a famous rapper has gone deaf because she was using vancomycin and it’s known to cause deafness in people.
The FDA is putting warning signs on the bottle of antidepressants and hope that parents would be alert to this matter. However, they say that antidepressants are an effective method of treatment for children with depression. The medication can help them achieve a more normal, stable, and happy life. The warning is just there but it doesn’t mean parent have to be afraid of it.
They still recommend antidepressant to be use to treat children with depression. Children should be evaluated often by their doctors for effectiveness and side effects of the medicine. You should ensure that your child get this evaluation often. If you don’t choose the medication, you can pursue other methods of treatment such as psychotherapy and lifestyles changes.
