How to be safe when meeting people off the internet

December 22nd, 2008 | Article by ~Nan~ | Computers and Internet, Culture and Society, Legal, Men's Issues, Other, Recreation and Leisure, Relationships, Women's Issues

I find the dating scene to be so complicated and scary. Most people in our society today are involved with online dating. But there are so many possibilities of becoming targets. And what I mean by targets is, victims of rapists, abusers, or thiefs! What should a person do if they find themselves in a position where they like someone, but they’ve met online, and are unsure of what percautions to take? Here are some safety tips for you to fall back on.

1. Always meet your interest in a public place. If they tell you they don’t like public places for
some reason or another. Leave them alone! They are probably up to no good.

2. Get as much information as you can about your interest before you meet. Address, Place
of employment, Bank, etc., and check up on this information before meeting them. You need to
know that they are being honest and up front with you from the start.

3. Bring a friend to watch over you. This friend should not be joining you, but be off to the side
close by, taking pictures. This friend should get a picture of their car, license plate number,
the interest themselves, etc. They won’t know who you know (unless you have their
face plastered on the website you met them on).

4. Don’t forget to bring your cell phone, which hopefully has voice activation. If at any point you
start feeling uncomfortable with his advances, you can just reach inside your purse and push
the side of your phone and start recording. I give this advice, because if you decide you want
to file charges against him for harassment, the police will need some kind of proof.

5. Never give them too much information. Don’t get into bank accounts, where your kids go to
school (it’s none of their business unless they want to start paying their child support), how
much income you make, where you keep your valuables in the home (they could follow you
home and break in while your gone, or worse, sleeping!)

It’s a very unsafe world these days, and people are becoming harder and harder to trust. I know…I’ve made this mistake. And it almost cost me my life! Worse yet, I didn’t have the smarts at the time to take these precautions, and the police had very little to go on. I never did catch my attacker.

Be safe…not sorry!

How to boost your Adsense earnings

November 6th, 2008 | Article by sean9461 | Career, Computers and Internet, Writing

So, you signed up for adsense in the past but found that you did not make any money from it?

This may be because you have not placed the adsense code in the right place on your website. There are numerous amounts of ways you can boost your adsense income and I will teach you them. Make sure that you follow these guidelines and your adsense income will be boosted to the max.

1) Placement of the Ads.

The placement of the Ads is the main point to getting more clicks, you must have the ads visible. Meaning do not have the Ads right at the bottom of your web page where nobody is going to look. Also do not have them in the middle of the web page as this is disliked by viewers.

2) The colour of the Ad.

The colour of the Ad should match the background of your website. For example if the background of your website is black, make the background of the Ad black with white text. This will make it stand out very well for your viewers and boost your adsense clicks.

3) make sure that you have placed the Adsense Code correctly.

The main problem for people not receiving credit for Ads being clicked is because the HTML code has simply not been copied correctly, make sure you have not missed off any of the code as one missing letter of the code can make the code not work.

4) Make sure you do not break Google Adsense Terms and Conditions.

This is a main problem as Google, take this very seriously and if you simple accidentally click your own Ad they will ban you and never let you back in as they say this is to protect their advertisers. So be very careful and do not test your own Ads.

Follow these guidelines and your Adsense Income will be boosted and you will be well on your way to a full time income.

Why you need to monitor your children’s internet usage

October 31st, 2008 | Article by Alien | Computers and Internet, Family

The internet is so easily accessible by children nowadays. With the use of the laptop you can get free internet wifi and you don’t even have to set up an account. Therefore children can go online anytime they like and do anything that they want without you even knowing it. This poses a great risk for children. It’s not safe at all for under age children to do anything that they wanted online. Sometimes they can be lure in by predators and they won’t know it. At least adult know exactly what to look for but not underage kids.

It’s important that parent have a talking session about internet use with their children. After all they can even access the internet with their phone or even download stuff to their ipods. Children grow up fast in this day and age and most know about a lot of things that they shouldn’t need to worry about at those ages. We have seen teen getting pregnant at the age of 14 years old. This is kind of young to be having a baby but it’s not uncommon nowadays.

Children should focus on their schooling and worrying about being a kid instead of having to be exposing to weird stuff on the net and even weird people. Adults can handle the profanity online but not children. They often don’t even understand it a maybe even feel oppressed by it. The information that is available on the web could be too much for your child.

They need to know about it and how to use it at time but you should never let them browse it without your supervision because they can be going to website that are no good for them. Children talking in chat room are not a good thing either. There are plenty of predators waiting for a gullible kid. Most website allow kids to be as old as 13 to enter the site. We do see this on my space. There has been a lot of crime resulting from kids joining services on the net and meeting strangers.

Children that are under 18 years of age, you still are their legal guardian and you should watch over them and not only that you’re ultimately responsible for their well being and safety. If you allow them to venture too much on their own then you allow them to be at risk.

There are kids that grow up to be addicted to certain things on the net that are not good for their well being at all. Using the internet is a great thing but it could lead to some serious problems. It’s important that you really have a talking session with your children and tell them what you want them to avoid doing.

For example, you can tell them that they should avoid the chat room because they don’t know who is on the other screen and that they should never give out their contact information or decide to meet up with them. Predators know how to trick children or to pretend to be a good friend. They can offer your children money and things that children love. There are a lot of weird people on the chat room. People that are chatting should at least be 18 years of age or at least be wise enough to chat there.

Most parent nowadays even allow their little thirteen years old to do anything that they wanted on the net and sometimes this might not be in their best interest. It’s ok to have fun on the net but you should at least supervise your children on their activities so that they are safe. How can you do this? You should not allow a laptop in their room. You can hold the laptop and then give it to them when you are home so that you can supervise your children. They can have a pc with no internet if they need to type up their work.

If your children are under 18 you have every right as their legal guardian to supervise their work. Have you seen some movies rating and how they said that certain movies can only be watched with parental supervision? Even movies have this standard to protect children from being exposing to things that they’re not ready for or not even legal for them. Sometimes it’s not legal to impose certain things on underage kids.

The goal is to let your children use the net but it should be with your supervision. You can sit next to them while they’re searching and helping them along the way. You should never allow them to use it alone in their room by themselves. You can explain to them those certain places on the net are not safe for them and that they shouldn’t visit those sites. Good children should listen to you.

It’s just that most parents nowadays seem to let their kids do whatever they wanted on the internet and may regret it one day if their kids are missing. The internet is a safety hazard for some children. It’s alright for children who are beyond intelligent and know how to protect themselves and know how to be safe. We don’t have to worry about these children but the rest we do need to worry about. In the US children can do whatever that they wanted when they reach 18 years of age but until them it’s the parent’s responsibility to help keep their children safe.

Online Surveys

October 29th, 2008 | Article by Angel Sharum | Business and Finance, Computers and Internet, Hobbies, Other

Some of the most common tasks of online surveys are to identify which products sell best, which vacation spots are visited the most, and offer a way to collect health information. This is all valuable information that needs to be collected; therefore, companies are willing to pay people to take online surveys.

It isn’t easy to find legitimate survey sites. There are sites all over the Internet that promise to pay large sums for doing surveys. Don’t fall for this. Most legitimate survey sites will not pay a lot. You can make some extra money, but don’t expect to make a living doing surveys. You should look at it more as extra spending money, and the opportunity to learn about new products and services.

Here are a few online survey sites that you should check out:

· Global Test Market

· Pinecone Research

· Mysurvey.com

· MindField

These online survey sites do pay and they have customer service should any problems arise. Their emails are professional and you will not receive spam. If you wish to do online surveys check with any of the above sites. You can even sign up with all of them. Be aware that some online survey companies are by invitation only. Pinecone Research is this way, except for certain periods when they do open enrollment.

Payment is either sent by check or through PayPal. If you don’t have a PayPal account, you should sign up for one. It’s free and easy.

Some survey sites require confidentiality. The companies that contract with them are trying to find out what consumers think about products BEFORE they put them on the market. For this reason they don’t want information about the products to become public knowledge. You will be required to sign a confidentiality agreement before doing the surveys, and periodically throughout the time you work with the online survey site.

If you are looking to make a few quick bucks in a very easy manner, sign up with some online survey sites. They are fun and easy to do!

What you shouldn’t put on Myspace

October 29th, 2008 | Article by Alien | Computers and Internet

The internet and websites like My space, Face book are all great social networks but are they not safe for you sometimes? This will depends on you and how you expose yourself and what types of information you put down. Sometimes a lot of crimes can come forth from these sites. You just have to be more cautious when putting down information about yourself or where you’ll be next.

Sometimes this is not a good thing for you if you have people that are stalking you or watching you like if you’re a celebrity. You will be surprise to find that many agencies spend their spare time recording everything you put on Myspace or Facebook down. Why are they doing this? You may have already guessed.

Everything that you do online is revealed so you have to be careful. The fact is that there are people who are recording every little detail about you and therefore it will be to your best advantage to not provide critical information’s. You will decide what those critical information are.

People in the US have the right to look at your profile and record anything that they wish you can’t stop them from doing that but you can limit the amount of personal information that you put out there. There are also personal stalkers that will profile you and then try to show up at those places that you mention you will be at. I have personally had a stalker following around town.

I thought he was a friend but it turned out that he has some major interpersonal issues and would drive all day in the street looking for me or show up at the places that I hang out. One time I walked by and saw him and I was a little surprise so I just walk fast and pretend like nothing ever happens. You can trust people but they won’t always be what you expect. For your safety you need to reveal as little information as possible on the internet.

You will be surprise as to how much information a person will put on the internet. They will put their address, phone numbers, places they usually go to and people that they usually hang out with and their recent adventure. All of these can be a safety hazard for you. You should not think that no one look at your profile for clues but they do. Your myspace page reveals all the clues about you. It’s to your best advantage to limit the amount of sensitive information that you put out there and especially if you’re a high profile individual like a celebrity.

You should avoid putting down information like your full name, address, phone number, email address, school name, work name, wife and children names, and anything else that you deem as private. You can always use a nickname on the internet. You don’t have to use your real name so I don’t see why people are putting their full name on Myspace but they do. It’s for your safety that you don’t offer this information. People can hack into several accounts nowadays and even steal all the information you put there. The point is to not record anything down online unless it’s necessary.

You must always limit your level of self-expression too. For example if you talk about certain sensitive subjects that may deem as breaking the laws or a hazard to someone else you can get into trouble. People can report you if they see your comments and they have in the past. A lady was arrested on Craig list for posting to hire a person to do a criminal act for her. Someone has reported her and she was arrested in the US. You have to limit your self-expression to a legal standard.

DOUBLE your Dollars in minutes!

October 29th, 2008 | Article by Alrady | Business and Finance, Career, Computers and Internet, Culture and Society, Marketing

Writing is your investment. The thrill of writing a great article and earning residual income is better than investing in the stock market. There is something deeply beneficial in getting your words out on paper - or computer screen. To have others read and respond is inspiring. Making money however is also motivational. Face it we all need money to live on and the payout on payday can be very rewarding. Why not make the most of your efforts?

To DOUBLE your money can be very easy. If you can earn $30 on ehow, neowide or XOMBA then once you can do it 2x. If you can do that, then you can rewrite for others sites and double or even triple your initial revenue.

To do this all you have to do is rewrite the article with a good amount of revisions to keep it unique and not a straight copy of what you already have. Play with words, talk out loud, do whatever it takes to rework it. Play with titles in Google Search; check your keywords to optimize your article. You don’t have to take long just work smart.

Next, make sure to use Word to run spell and grammar check. Save the document in a folder with possible picture choices for various websites. Write and rewrite. Try to format it to a 700 word article. It is much easier to cut words than add, in my opinion. This may mean eliminating a few paragraphs or expanding on subtopics. Think of how some of the eBooks or advertising blogs look in your email.

Don’t forget to JAZZ up the title as it will not benefit you to have it optimized for Google search unless it is on a site that is ad revenue driven. You can have several alternate titles written and pasted to bottom of your word document. Choices are a good thing to have. You can also have picture choices mapped out and kept in the document files. I know they say to stay away from cliché’s but “variety is the spice of life”. That thought holds true in writing.

Use Google to find websites that will publish your article. You can check my articles on ehow with my Alrady name and get some website ideas. Neowide is going to give you the best dollar for upfront that I have seen so far. Ehow is the best for residual. Writing your own blog is a good way to try to pull in advertising from other sources and allow you to use affiliates such as Shopzilla or Amazon or Chitka. But that my friend, is an article for another day and another dollar!

What is email marketing?

October 28th, 2008 | Article by Ekta K. Kalra | Computers and Internet

The advent of broadband internet has revolutionized the concept of marketing. The sales companies now do not need to print lengthy sales letters or brochures and post them to their customers. This kind of arduous and expensive process, called snail mail, is gradually being taken over by email or electronic mail marketing which is simple and easy to use.

Email is the modern method of exchanging messages over the internet. It uses the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol or SMPT.

The simplicity and ease of email communication has significantly contributed to the growth of internet or email marketing. Millions of commercial email messages are sent across the world every day.

The ease of email messaging has also generated several communication problems in form of spamming or unsolicited mailing.

The legitimate process of email marketing involves seeking the permission of the visitors and then collecting their names and email addresses. Seeking prior permission is essential as people do not like to receive unsolicited messages.

One way to develop the lists of your prospective customers is to place your ads about your niche product or service in the search engines. When the searchers type their query in the search engines that matches the keyword about your product in your ads, the search engine opens up the page—the result page– that provides answer to the query.

As soon as the searcher clicks on your ad, your website page opens. You explain the benefits of your products, and ask the visitor if he would like to learn more about your product or service. If the visitor feels interested in your product, he provides his name and email id so that he may receive your mails and newsletters.

This process of enlisting the members for receiving your email messages is called building opt-in lists. You start sending the mails to your list members. Some times the messages are commercial in nature and other times they contain free gifts and other interesting information. The marketers develop a relationship of trust and understanding with their customers which help them sell their products.

Attractive photos - Tips&Tricks

October 22nd, 2008 | Article by Anna | Computers and Internet, Hobbies

It`s good to know that the photos`s retouching implies a lot of work and patience, the best results being obtained with little steps. For example, if we want to use a tool, we should choose a small value and to apply it until we obtain the best result, than to apply it just once at big value. The results will be more natural. Also, a bad framed picture will never became a masterpiece.

That`s why for remaking, you have to choose those photos that are good framed and are not moved. The good results are obtained by  experimenting.   Work on a layer for erasing some effects.  Choose a photo and try on it, the tools and the functions from Photoshop. Before starting with the remaking, it`s good to know which are the most frequent problems and what are the best tool for remedying them.

Basic

- In the case in which the colors are not those from the reality, you should use the Auto Colors function.

- If the photo is colorless, choose the Auto Contrast to correct the contrast.

- If the photo seems to have a lack of details, use the Shadow/Highlight tool (–>Image/Adjustment/Shadow/Highlight).

Attentions! Never work on the original photo!

Remove the “red eyes”

One of the main problems of the photos made with the flashlight is the “red eyes”. This is the way you can solve the problem:

  1. Duplicate the photo and close the original one.
  2. Duplicate this photo and put the windows one near the other. Zoom on the eyes.
  3. Use the Lasso tool to cup up the red parts.
  4. Use the eyedropper tool to take the color from the iris.
  5. Paint the red part from the iris with this color.
  6. Filters/Blur/Gaussian and then give a 1pixel value blur to harmonize the borders.
  7. Set the layer on Saturation (layer style/ blending options).
  8. Duplicate this layer and then change the layer in Hue.
  9. It`s working!

An attractive sky

Often, the persons and the objects from the pictures taken at the seaside have a colourless background.

To ‘cheer’ it up, here`s a quick advice:

  1. Open the photo and go to Image/Adjust/Selective Colors.
  2. Choose Blues with all the values set on 0 beside Black. The selected method will be Relative.
  3. Create a new layer.
  4. Combine the layer with the Color burn method.
  5. On the copied layer, erase with the Erase tool all that`s under the horizon line.
  6. The photo is ready.

Attractive photos

You can ‘cheer up’ quickly a grey and boring photo.

  1. Open the photo and apply the Sponge tool set on “saturate’ and 100%. Choose the areas from the photo that you want to cheer up.
  2. The photo is ready for printing.

Go Ahead and Meet Up: Chat Romances and Risk Taking

October 22nd, 2008 | Article by Ekta K. Kalra | Computers and Internet, Relationships

I feel that I could fly if I just jumped high enough. My hands tremble when I try to sit still. I have to remind myself to breathe.

Our story began about four years ago, where we first “met” in a book and literature chat room. He spent the evening asking me questions like “If you could meet anyone, alive or dead, who would you choose?” Or, “Do you prefer stepladders or staircases?”

My answer was Thoreau (though maybe now I’d change it to Socrates) and staircases because I’m klutzy and staircases were more likely to have handrails. I was new to the chat scene, only a few days and so when he instant messaged me with these questions, I thought it would be an amusing way to spend an evening.

The connection grew and we talked more, but I was already involved with someone and so I had to let him go. We’ve talked, via emails and instant messages intermittently though nothing came of it: one of us was always with someone. But I could never really shake the idea of meeting him out of my mind. The connection I felt with him has always been mysterious and strong; the sort of thing you doubt because it seems too absurd to be true.

And now it’s tomorrow. Eek! The culmination of something that’s been building for four years or more is finally coming to fruition. Tomorrow evening I will be meeting Mr. X face to face!

Now we’ve exchanged pictures so I know a bit of what to expect, but there’s always a reaction when you meet someone for the first time and this will be the tell. But readers, even if my heart sinks and it isn’t what we hoped, this moment here, this anticipation and excitement, is what it’s all about.

No matter what happens tomorrow, at this moment I am more alive then I’ve felt in a long time. Every single sense is piqued and I feel as though the air is just singing with joy. For anyone that has ever thought about taking a risk, but was worried about failing, the exhilaration at just having taken the risk is a reward in itself.

And for all you would be connecting chat romances out there, who might be too intimidated to meet, let me assure there are plenty of others who have done the same. One chat friend of mine met her husband in the same room I met Mr. X and now they’re married. Virtually every one I’ve talked to in room (which is a lot) has admitted to having met someone they knew from online and all seem happy to have had the experience, even if it didn’t work out. In fact, I had a random conversation with the airline employee who sold me my ticket and she said she’d met up with two different people she met from online!
