Dog-gone Heartstrings
Article about: *dogs as man's best friend
Humans and pets share a bond unique in the animal kingdom. Unlike other relationships between different species which involve self-preservation in the equation, humans and pets live together for purely different reasons.
Since the arrival of the hunter-gatherers thousands of years ago, wild dogs have learned to rely on their human counterparts for protection and company. Over the course of several millennium, man has come to accept the dog with open arms. Not only does the dog provide protection and valuable help when it comes to hunting or other activities, but it also keeps man company.
It is this single valuable thing that the dog provides man which keeps him equally devoted to his canine companion. Though man can live on his own, he has considered dogs as part of his family. The dog, for its part, considers man as his master and fellow pack member.
Dogs are known for their fierce and relentless loyalty to their masters. No matter how much a dog is hurt by his master, he will still come home to him. Such is the great compassion of the canine species to his human master that he will place himself between his master and danger.
Dogs have an uncanny ability to sense danger beforehand and warn his master about that impending threat. Their keen sense of smell and acute hearing can detect danger far better than humans can, making him an invaluable companion to any person. Unlike fellow humans, dogs do not ask much from their masters. All they ask for is a bit of food, a place to stay, and a warm voice and hug every once in a while.
Man, on the other hand, benefits greatly from his canine friend. More than the physical protection, dogs provide emotional stability and can serve as effective de-stressers. Ask any pet owner what they like most of their dogs and they will probably say that its the wagging tail and the bright eyes that meet them at the end of a tiring day.
Surely, dogs were put on this Earth for a purpose. Yes, man might be the dominant creature on our world but he would not be where he is now if it were not for his loyal friend and companion, the faithful and tireless dog.
