Halloween is right around the corner. If your child can’t decide on a store bought costume or you don’t want to spend a lot of money on one, why not make a homemade Halloween costume? Even the non-creative can make these simple costumes.

1. A ghost costume is very easy to make. Get a sheet or even pillow case if the costume is for a very small child, and put it over the child. Make sure it almost touches the ground but isn’t going to cause a problem with walking. Take a marker and designate where the eye holes should be cut. (Make sure to have your child close their eyes so you don’t poke them when marking)Remove the sheet or pillow case and cut eye holes on your marks. You can even draw eye lashes if you wish above the cut outs. Put the sheet back over your child. Tie a belt around their waist and add a funky hat. Now you have a hip little ghost!

2. A hobo is another easy Halloween costume to make. Find the oldest pair of pants your child owns and cut some holes in them. Role up one leg a little and cut the other off at the bottom, making sure to leave some strings hanging. Make it look really rough. Use a button up shirt. A soft, well worn material is best. Make stains on the shirt, cut holes in it, and tear it in places. Have them wear old shoes that have been through the ringer a time or two. Then use makeup and paint some whiskers on your child’s face. Put them a little hat on and send your little hobo on his way.

3. Dress little girls as boys and little boys as girls. These are easy if you have one of each sex. Just switch their clothes for the night. Slick your daughter’s hair down like a boy, and add makeup to your son to make it authentic.

As you can see, these really are easy costumes to make. They are good for small children that might not really be aware of what Halloween is all about. They just want to go out and get some candy. It’s practical to make them a costume and save some money. As long as they enjoy the night everything is fine.
