Helping other people isn’t hard. It doesn’t have to cost a fortune, or require lots of effort. There are some simple ways to help your fellow man that won’t cost you a dime. Give some of these a try the next time you see someone in need.
1. Offer to babysit a couples kids so they can go out. Every couple needs some alone time. They need to go out and do grown-up activities. This doesn’t mean they don’t love their kids, it just means they are still individuals. If the couple doesn’t have family close, and can’t afford daycare, they are sometimes stuck. If you offer to watch the kids for a few hours they will greatly appreciate it.
2. Give someone a ride to the grocery story. The next time you’re heading that way, if you know someone who needs to pick some stuff up but it short of gas money, offer to give them a lift. It takes nothing away from you because you were going anyway, but will be a big help to them.
3. Help a friend prepare for an interview. Maybe you know someone who is trying to better themselves by changing careers. It’s always a good idea to practice interview questions. Help your friend get their interview technique down pat so they’ll have a better chance of getting the job.
4. Give old or no longer needed clothes to charity. This is an old stand-by. There are many places that take up clothes for the needy. Box up everything your family no longer wears and give it to someone who will.
5. Become a big brother or sister to a child. This is a great way to help someone. There are lots of kids in need of older role models. You don’t have to do anything extra special with the children. Just being there and listening are important. Take them on outings you were going on anyway and there will be no extra expense.
These are just a few ideas to get you started. If you think about it I’m sure you’ll come up with other ways to help your fellow man that don’t cost you anything but a little time and love.
