How to create fun Holloween pumpkins.

You will need: Pumpkin. Anything round for bottom. Serrated and carving knife. Tape. Push pins and nail for holes. Candles.

*Know your design and make a template.

1. Take a copy of your design with you when you go to buy your pumpkins

2. Make sure to buy firm and stable pumpkins, they will last longer.

3. Choose your knife according to the size of the pumpkins.

4. Use regular size candles to light your taller lanterns and votive for shorter ones.

*Carving your pumpkins.

Make sure pumpkin is clean. Draw a circle on the bottom of pumpkin and cut out circle with a large serrated knife. Pry off carefully and remove seeds and pulp.

Tape your design to the best side of the pumpkin. Use push pins to pierce holes along design lines about 1/8″ apart for cutting guide. Re-pierce with nail to make cutting easier.

Carve outline of design slowly with a serrated knife.

When finish carving outline of design, use a carving knife to fix edges. Punch a few holes in the back of pumpkin to provide ventilation. Provide a smooth surface for your candles. Place your carved out pumpkin over the candles.

*Helpful hints.

  • Keep pumpkin moist after carving by sprinkling with water once a day.
  • Coat edges with petroleum jelly to keep fresh.
  • Use imagination and use fun design for your pumpkins.
