Diabetes is a very serious disease. When your body doesn’t produce insulin, or doesn’t use the insulin produced properly, a person is said to have diabetes. Diabetes can be progressive if not handled properly. Here are some tips for improving diabetes and keeping it from getting worse.

· Eat fewer carbohydrates. Diabetics can’t handle carbs as well as others. The fewer carbs you eat, the easier it will be on your body. Carbohydrates cause blood sugar to rise to unhealthy levels. Keeping your blood sugar in the optimal range is imperative for diabetic control.

· Exercise to lower blood sugar. Exercise is important for every diabetic. When you exercise it helps the cells use insulin and lower blood sugar faster. Every diabetic should work up to exercising six days a week for at least thirty minutes.

· Take medication as directed. If you are on medication for diabetes make sure and take it regularly. Skipping doses will leave you open for higher blood sugar readings. High blood sugar readings are to be avoided at all costs.

· Stay healthy. When a diabetic gets sick it can cause a spike in blood sugar readings. Do whatever you can to prevent catching colds and the like.

· Avoid stress whenever possible. Stress is another thing that causes a rise in blood sugar. Every diabetic should learn to cope with stress and relax as much as possible.

As you can see, these are common sense tips that anyone can do. They may not always be easy, but if you want to stay as healthy as possible and keep your diabetes from getting worse, you will follow them.
