Strawberry Surprise is a dish I make for my husband every now and then. It started out as hamburger/macaroni mixture but he never seemed to want it when I’d suggest having it. After we finished eating, though, he always was glad we had it and even liked it.

We finally decided that it wasn’t the dish itself that he didn’t like, but rather the name. So I decided I’d call it something else and that something else became Strawberry Surprise. The surprise part is that there are no strawberries. It’s still the same old hamburger/macaroni mixture but seems so much better when you call it Strawberry Surprise.

If you’d like to try Strawberry Surprise, here’s the recipe:

1 pound of hamburger

1/4 cup of chopped onion

Seasoned salt

Medium shell macaroni

1 jar of spaghetti sauce, your choice of brand and flavorings

Break the hamburger up in a skillet, sprinkle liberally with seasoned salt, add the onions and brown.

Drain.

In the meantime, cook the macaroni according to the directions on the box.

Heat up the spaghetti sauce.

Drain the macaroni and add it to the drained hamburger/onion mixture. Pour the spaghetti sauce over the whole thing and mix thoroughly. Reheat a bit if necessary and add more seasoned salt if you feel it needs it.

Serve with hot soft bread or rye bread and butter and enjoy! Surprise!!!
