The Benefits Of Owning A Pet

As a child, I grew up with several pets. We always had pets, be it a dog, fish, or birds, sometimes all of the above. At one point, we had over 10 dogs. My parents have a house out of town, so I grew up on a ranch in the country with a huge lake behind my mom’s house.
As an adult with children of my own, I believe that having a pet has great benefits.
1. Responsibility- A pet teaches a child that he or she has to be responsible for his or her pet. They have to feed their pet on a daily basis and make sure they have water at all times.
2. Kindness- A great quality in a person is kindness. A pet has showed my children that being kind towards animals and others alike makes for a better world.
3. Friendship- A pet truly is man’s best friend. I see how each one of my children’s pet loves to be with my child and whenever my kids feel sad for whatever reason, his or her pet is right there trying to comfort their owner.
4. Exercise- Just like a child needs exercise so do pets. So having a pet will motivate a child to go outside and get active. Running, walking, and playing fetch with a pet are all great exercises and both pet and owner will benefit from that.
5. Love- A pet will always love his owner unconditionally no matter what. They will never judge you for your faults, therefore teaching our children that love is the best benefit in life.
